Born in Albion, Michigan in 1910. Henry Brown attended Albion College, graduating in 1933. He received his M.A. from the University of Michigan. Mr. Brown was the curator of the Michigan Historical Collections, 1937-1946, and assistant director, Detroit Historical Museum, 1946-1947, and director in 1947 until his death on February 2, 1970. Outside of museum holdings, no comprehensive survey and inventory of campus artwork had been attempted since 1937.
